Betty Suderman
Noted for her sensitive musicianship, pianist Betty Suderman is especially in demand as a performer of Lieder and chamber music. She has concertized throughout Canada, the Pacific Northwest, Europe and Africa. Collaborating with fellow musicians is a particular joy for and has resulted in her participation as accompanist in numerous European vocal competitions, including several with Edith Wiens. She has recorded with Vancouver Cantata Singers, the Pacific Mennonite Children’s Choir, and West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir, including performances with Edith Wiens, Ben Heppner and Colin Balzer. She is often heard together with violinist, Calvin Dyck in several multi-media shows featuring the story of his violin.
Ms. Suderman has studied in Europe under the auspices of the German Academic Exchange Scholarship and the Canada Council. In 1999, she completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the University of British Columbia. She has accompanied and sung with the Valley Festival Singers since its inception, and is a valued collaborator. She lives in Abbotsford, B.C., and in her spare time enjoys reading, hiking and singing in choirs.
