What began 49 years ago in the Spring of 1976 by Abbotsford choral conductor Rudy Baerg has grown to become a choir every community would be proud to claim as their own. The Valley Festival Singers of Abbotsford, BC is a choir where community happens.
Multi-generational, the Valley Festival Singers is comprised of adult singers of all ages. The common thread is their love of singing and their joy is sharing choral music. Marilyn Bysouth, a former president of the VFS says, “Music is a vital part of everyone’s lives; it brings immeasurable joy and it is a lifeline to our community. I am privileged to be a part of the Valley Festival Singers.”
Former directors include: Rudy Baerg – 1976-2001, John Nickel – 2001-2004, Marlene Funk – 2005, Tony Funk – 2005-2012 & 2013-2016, Gail Suderman – 2012-2013, Joel Tranquilla 2016-2023 & currently Rob Workman – 2023-
Dear friends & supporters:
It is with profound sadness that we share with you the passing of one of our own, Rudy Baerg, Tuesday, Sept. 17/19 . Not only was Rudy a member of our bass section until the end of April 2019, he was also the founding director of Valley Festival Singers in 1976. A gifted choral musician, conductor and friend to all, he served VFS with distinction as Music Director for 25 years until his retirement in 2001. His legacy lives on in this our 49th season!
In memory of Rudy Baerg
